Orna 3.0 brings with it a humongous update the likes of which Orna has not seen for a very long time. One part of this update is the introduction of themed dungeons, which bring with them a variety of unique monsters, gear to find and extra bonuses upon dungeon completion. Themed dungeons are also very much promoting the new party play feature as part of this update, however solo players can still face the full power of party-mode Dungeons in the new horde mode (themed dungeons only) , where they will face the same quantity of Monsters during the dungeon as they would when playing with a party. The most commonly asked question regarding themed dungeons is how do they spawn? Do they spawn randomly as new buildings or take the place of other buildings/dungeons or what? Well the answer is currently that themed dungeons do randomly spawn on a weekly rotation but they take the place of existing dungeons, no new buildings appear. Every Sunday evening at midnight UTC the dungeons rotate randomly, with roughly 50% of existing normal dungeons becoming themed dungeons, and the rarity of each dungeon type is transmitted appropriately with Valley of the Gods being the rarest for example. Fuximus (famous Beowulf player) carried out a community incidence report survey during beta, results below, showing approx 50% of dungeons get turned into a themed dungeon every week, with some then being rarer than others. Each new themed Dungeon, of which there are currently 7, have initially been targeted to certain tiers and obviously specific monster types, and some dungeons are tier locked in a similar way. However mobs are scaled to the highest tier player in your party, so if you enter a Goblin Fortress in a party of tiers 5 and 10, the mobs will all be scaled to tier 10. In this article we will investigate the general strategies being used by players in this early phase of the new update, as well as taking a look into each themed dungeon, detailing what you are likely to find and and and the dangers you may face inside. Of course the one thing that all themed dungeons are good for that I will mention here rather than in each and every dungeon section below, is the access to specific mob farming for quests. Quests are fantastic for lower level characters during the entire levelling process, but also great for Kingdom Quests and helping with building up your Kingdom's Florens count. For working towards the questing achievement is a great source of orns throughout, and of course the individual quests can often provide you with very useful rewards on a daily basis. So definitely look out for these quests and work out which themed dungeons can easily assist you with specific and often hard-to-find mob kills! We've also embedded a video of each new themed dungeon run in this article so you can get a visual idea of what each themed dungeon will typically be like. Please note these videos were recorded during the first week or two of Beta, so details such as key costs in the videos themselves may be outdated by the time you watch this. I will ensure the costs written in this guide are up to date however. Key CostAs we all know dungeons in Orna cost gauntlet keys to enter, and themed dungeons are no different. However there are a couple of different key costs associated with themed dungeons depending on whether you enter solo, as a party, or enter solo in horde mode (hard mode still exists as a 5x key cost multiplier to any mode). Also the development team have actually been playing around with different key entry fees throughout the Beta and and I will do my best to keep this article up-to-date in relation to key cost for the below themed dungeons. Currently each themed Dungeon has a base key cost entry, party mode will increase the key cost by however many party members enter the dungeon with you as the leader. So for example if the base key cost is 2 gauntlet keys and you enter the dungeon as a party of 3, you will pay 2 by 3 keys which is 6 keys in total. Only the leader pays only keys to enter the Dungeon. If you want to play solo and try horde mode the base key cost is x5, very similar to hard mode. By the way when I say horde mode, this mode makes the dungeon encounters you face exactly as if you were in a party dungeon but you are facing the dungeon solo. This is obviously much more difficult especially when you face multiple berserk enemies on the same floor. However it is still a good option to have available for those players who don't have the time to organise a party or they are travelling and want to hop in a dungeon they have seen during transit, or even those crazy players who want a challenge. Goblin FortressMin tier: 3 Difficulty: Normal Completion bonus: increased gold Base key cost: 1 Mob types: goblins, hobgoblins, orcs, kobolds Unique mobs: Hobgoblin Lord, Kobold Lord, Elite Orc Lord, Elite Kobolds/Orcs Max mobs per floor: 3 Good for: arena tokens, gold Odie mentioned recently on his ascent to lvl 250 in-game (yes you can actually fight him in Arena) that he levelled up by killing a goblin... Now the time he said that was just before themed dungeons were introduced and perhaps it was a sneaky tidbit of info on what was to come, perhaps it was through clearing Goblin Fortresses that he levelled so quickly? Anyway we know Odie likes to troll... In any case, the first of these new themed dungeons is the Goblin Fortress, available at Tier 3, the same tier we can enter normal dungeons actually so it's definitely meant to be a low-tier dungeon and to be honest I think it's going to be great for new and lower level characters. Especially if they can party up and enter a few times to get extra mob kills and a few dungeon rounds in. For higher tier players this dungeon isn't anything to really get excited about but it's not meant to be. The first reason this is a great dungeon for low level characters is the amount of Arena Tokens that drop from the mobs here. Goblin Lords and Hobgoblin Lords and even Orc Lords up at tier 4 all drop the tokens, as well as lucky coin and lucky silver coin after you reach tier 4. The coins are great to supplement early world farming, especially before building up a wayvessel, but the arena token supply is fantastic to get those early PvP juices flowing, and find the important arena drops quickly. I'm talking scrolls for mages from tier 3, arrows for warrior/thief at tier 3 as well, then even couple tiers later on the upgraded versions of scrolls and arrows, as well as the status immunity accessories such as waking/steady/blight pendants. The second reason this is great for low levelled players is the extra gold on completion - yes we'd all love orns but I think having the extra gold early for low level characters is really supportive also. It means you can buy more things from shops and construct buildings sooner without having an annoying gold shortage which doesn't increase very fast from selling Goblin Boots. The Elite versions of Orc Lord/Kobold Lord and normal Kobolds at the higher tiers give codex hunters something extra to work towards finding these dungeons, however their drops in terms of equipment are typically mediocre relative to boss-gear available at the same tiers. However a lucky ornate drop may be a decent stop-gap piece for players entering new tiers. All in all I think the Goblin Fortress is designed specifically for low levelled characters and it does a decent job of providing good incentives for new players to get stuck in and clear some of these Forts out, with arena tokens, lucky coins and extra gold rewards all being valuable pick-ups in the early game. Mystic Cave Min tier: 3 Difficulty: Normal Completion bonus: extra orns Base key cost: 1 Mob types: magical Unique mobs: - Max mobs per floor: 3 Good for: ascension mats (eyestone, elemental stones), ancient troll charms for mid game, charging School of Avalon passive An entire dungeon built for mages! Finally the mage buff we've all wanted! But no in all seriousness i think the Mystic Cave is low-key a solid themed dungeon that can have a little bit for everyone at different times during their Orna career. Yes the mobs inside are magical, making it a really useful place for Omnimancers to charge their School of Avalon passive at tier 9, but it can also be a nice place to target farm something like a Crystallis at tier 7 for melee/pet builds (although he is quite a common boss in normal dungeons anyway, i'm just pointing out there's still stuff in here for non-mages). For players at tier 6 it's a great place to farm Ancient Troll's Charms from the Ancient Cyclops. Low levelled mages can target these for decent weaponry, especially the tier 5 Great Gazer boss is a solid target, but even at tier 3 super early you may find a cheeky wee Fallen Archmage's Staff or a Draugr Staff. If you need to kill slimes for any particular reason then this is the place to do so. My final point on Mystic Caves and the one that I reckon makes it low-key undervalued for higher tier players is the assortment of material drops you will find from monsters inside here. All the elemental stones including darkstone on top of that, really great for weapon enchanting before we even mention Ascension (which is the main point to be fair). Eyestone is another one of those pseudo-rare materials that can get players' knickers in a twist during Ascension if they get it as a required material a couple levels in a row - Mystic Cave is great for Eyestone! Beast Den Min tier: 5 Difficulty: Normal Completion bonus: extra orns Base key cost: 1 Mob types: animals Unique mobs: - Max mobs per floor: 3 Good for: ascension mats (wolf's blood, twilightstone), charging Beast Mode passive and Sorrow skills, Turul Feathers, Another great themed dungeon with a killer sprite but also offers a little something for everyone. Restricted to tier 4 and above, it'll be an ideal place for charging the Beast Mode passive for Druids at tier 5 and for Arch-Druids at tier 7. Also a more useful thing for mages in general will be the charging of the Sorrow spells. Every kill in here will help supercharge those Sorrow spells, probably the most powerful mid-game spells available to mages. It's also a fantastic farming spot for "rare" materials. Hardened Steel from the Minotaurs/Behemoths (including the arisen monster versions) is great for new Tier 9 melee players working towards levelling up their Venins. It's also an ideal place to farm the rare Wolf's Blood, in a similar fashion to Hardened Steel farming you can find Lord of Wolves and Fenrir inside the Beast Den, as well as their arisen mob versions. If you've checked out my Ascension Guide or watched my video on that you'll know of my personal struggle with accumulating Wolf's Blood throughout 2021, where I needed heaps of the stuff to ascend my Realmshifter. It's quite the typical feature of themed dungeons in general now though, being able to target farm rare materials important for Ascension, it always gives higher tier players a reason to enter even these low-tier themed dungeons, a great piece of game design. A decent place to farm Hurricane Arcs at tier 5 for attack builds, and also Bestial Eyes which are probably my new favourite mid-game adornment from tier 6 onwards, dropping from the Behemoth boss and its arisen mob. My final word on Beat Den will be the farming of Turul Feathers for tier 8 players and above. These adornments give +22 Dex +1% Crit (regardless of quality) into armour slots. It's a good source of crit for tier 8 players actually and although I never recommend building around dex, it can be a fun thing to try out. Previously Turul Feathers were an absolute nightmare to farm. But now even at tier 10 where we have more time to create builds, I think having a set of Turul Feathers on hand (especially for those dodgy Realm bois) will be a good weapon in all of our armouries. Dragon Roost Min tier: 5 Difficulty: Normal Completion bonus: extra orns Base key cost: 2 Mob types: dragons, Draconians, Unique mobs: Elite Draconians, Glatisant (can Godforge) Max mobs per floor: 3 Good for: charging Dragon Slayer passive and Dragon's Vengeance skills, Glatisant Godforging and questing weaponry, ascension mats (pure draconite, draconite, red draconite), (Arisen) Fafnir tomes/ring, Panaceas, One of the most popular themed dungeons during Beta, I have no doubt that accolade will continue on in the live Orna 3.0 version because the Dragon Roost is just an awesome dungeon, offering something for everyone from mid to end game. Firstly it's obviously filled with dragons, making it a hotspot to supercharge Dragon's Vengeance skills for attack builds and those pet classes with a Dragon Slayer passive (Dragoon, Dragon Knight, Freyr, Bahamut). For tier 7 players we have Tiamat and Typhon appearing regularly, making it a fantastic place to acquire a good weapon for all classes. (Let's not talk about the Hydra here). For tier 8+ there's the Fafnir boss, dropping panaceas, cursed tomes and cursed rings for fresh swashies. At tier 9+ we have of course the unique boss of Dragon Roost: Glatisant. Funnily enough it has the coral beast skin type but we don't actually see any coral mobs in this particular dungeon (at least not at time of writing). This boss will likely be the first time tier 9 players encounter an "Arisen" boss with the glowing yellow fire aura behind - that means this boss can Godforge your equipment! Definitely a good time to have a demonforged piece of gear on just in-case. It also means tier 10+ players will enjoy this lower tiered dungeon. Not only for Godforging though, because Glatisant drops Questing weapons, new farming weapons that give increased exp, orns and gold but also come with some base ward! Likely making it the new farming weapon of choice for the end-game. Have care because Glatisant is a tanky pink lizard, especially when berserk! At tier10+ we of course have the arisen dragon bosses re-entering as monsters, the most renowned of which is surely Arisen Fafnir - an important mob to grind for any tier 10 player wishing to grind the daunting experience wall of tier 10, dropping the Arisen Monster Tome. Of course there is the Arisen Ring as well for swashies. The Arisen Tiamat/Fafnir drop fantastic entry-level weaponry again for tier 10, believe me they are really solid for ornates. Another great themed dungeon offering something for everyone from mid to late game, the Dragon Roost will surely be a fan favourite especially considering it's quite a common themed dungeon. Glatisant is a great new boss to face and farm for its gear but also for Godforge chances. Chaos Portal Min tier: 6 Difficulty: Brutal Completion bonus: extra items Base key cost: 5 Mob types: weather and day/night specific Unique mobs: Stable Keepers Max mobs per floor: 5 Good for: Dokkalfar story quest, yeti coats, Turul Feathers, Codex Completionists, Prepare for a tough and brutal fight - you have been warned. This dungeon is not a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination. In fact I'd argue it's potentially the hardest of the lot relative to your tier. You will face up to 5 enemies in party or horde mode, seemingly innocent and easy looking to kill initially. However because there is a max amount of enemies there are also way more berserks to face, and all of a sudden you may find yourself taking heavy heavy damage from all sides. Fun detected! The Stable Keepers hit hard and are interesting with their new skillset, having the ability to slaughter your damage output temporarily, however I really hope they have some kind of item drops soon! For tier 7 players this'll be a great place to try and farm a solid Yeti Overcoat for sure. For tier 8 players you'll be relieved to hear this is a great dungeon for finding Dokkalfars! Probably the worst story quest to work your way through. For late game players this dungeon will have a decent amount of Balor Gateways for summoning scrolls. It also features a number of mobs that will be good for farming ascension materials, Twilightstone for example. The extra items completion bonus may also make it a desirable dungeon to complete for those of us looking for a second Band of Gods, or even for a better quality version especially now that quality affects orn gains on those booster pieces of gear. If you're thinking about trying this dungeon in Hard Mode for guaranteed Superior Quality items then I certainly wish you good luck as you will definitely need it! (unless Gilga lol). Underworld Portal Min tier: 9 Difficulty: Hard Completion bonus: extra items Base key cost: 5 Mob types: Balor Forces, Fomorians, Unique mobs: Elite Fomorians, Max mobs per floor: 4 Good for: summoning scrolls, The new sad-face Hades sprite still can't keep me away from these purple portals in the outer world, one of my favourite dungeons to find after weekly rotation! I'd say this dungeon is going to be targeted for one reason only: Summoning Scrolls. My gosh the summoning scrolls! They rain from this dungeon. You will most definitely want to organise a party for these and run it 4x times. Either with your kingdom mates or if you can't find anyone be sure to check out the Orna Legends discord server - it's the best place to find party members by far! I think the main point of discussion I would like to bring to your attention is what is the most efficient way to run this dungeon in terms of party roster. I have been trying to include a tier 9 player, even in a party of tier 11 players, why? Because yes we lose an entire 5 floors of dungeon BUT we filter out all the tier 10 monsters like Hades (sad Hades face). At tier 9 we have the second version of Balor Gateway available to spawn for us as well (there is a tier 7 and tier 9 version of the same mob) - this probably makes the inclusion of the new Elite Fomorian mobs worth it as well? It's an interesting topic of discussion currently in any case, I'm sure it won't be too long before a smart person works out exactly which tier will net us the most Balor Gateway spawns. At least running the tier 9 dungeon makes the runs quicker as well, which is something I quite like. I mean I've talked about this dungeon from the eyes of a alte game player but thinking about the mid-game for a second it's actually really solid as well, being able to entre from tier 8 means you can still farm scrolls at tier 8 more easily as well (filtering out all those new tier 9 elite mobs), a great boon as those World Raid Bosses provide awesome amounts of exp in huge chunks, will surely be great to team up with kingdom mates to take these down. Also the Ankou farming for Ornate Reaper's Robe and Deathbringer will be a solid choice, now that orn gains are also affected by quality. I'll end my comments on Underworld Portals by saying that my favourite playing sessions during beta so far have been when we've found Double Undies (two Underworld Portals in same location). Someone finds this and plonks a wayvessel there via an alt and shares it: makes for awesome times because it's generally an easy enough dungeon to smash your way through, even without having a Mage's Pavane/Dance mage carry (although that will always speed up the trash mob killing). It's one of those gameplay sessions you can chill out and not have to concentrate too hard, smash some mobs, and come out the other side with something like 30 summoning scrolls each! I love it! BattlegroundsMin tier: 8 Difficulty: Hard Completion bonus: extra items Base key cost: 5 Mob types: Nothren, Lyonesse Unique mobs: Baldr (can Godforge), elite nothrens Max mobs per floor: 5 Good for: Baldr Gear/Godforging, orns, gold/mats (lots of item drops), Another late-game favourite for many, the Battlegrounds features an awesome new boss that can Godforge, Baldr, but also plays on the Norse mythos via Nothren mobs which is without doubt a fan favourite. Is it because those Nothren mobs drop heaps of orns or because they tend to destroy every new tier 8 player? Maybe both. Regardless of your opinion on the Nothren mobs, the Battlegrounds themed dungeon is going to throw vast amounts of Nothren and Lyonesse firepower in your direction. Berserks in here hit super hard, and thereare plenty of them. Baldr's new battlemage gear provides healthy amounts of HP and ward and will surely be a solid option for mages. He is a tier 10 boss so he won't be visible as soon as you can enter this dungeon at tier 8. I've noticed he appears much more frequently than Glatisant, and even had him Godforge my Lost Helmet for me, so definitely going to be a solid place to run for the late-gme players. That Baldr sprite is also sick... Baldr sprite pack when Odie? With some practice you;ll likely want to start running Battlegrounds with as much orn-boosting gear as possible, perhaps easier to run with a party however. The Nothren mobs notoriously giving much greater rewards thanother same-tier enemies, and we have Heimdall jumping around in here as well so heaps of orns on offer. We also have plenty of item drops in this dungeon mainly thanks to Lyonesse mobs who all drop up to at least 5 items. A nice tip for newer players is having auto-dismantle off for standard qualities, allowing you to build up stacks of these items which you can then sell for millions of gold. You will actually need gold in the end game to buy Ward of Ortanite, adorning and of course Ascension. Not to mention the Lyonnesse Crown now having high amounts of Foresight making it a good optional piece for party play, it'll be prudent to have good one available should you ever need it. The new Elite Nothren mobs can again provide decent stop-gap gearing pieces before you find the typically more hard-to-find raid boss gear at these higher tiers. You will move on eventually as these gear pieces do not have boss scaling but they can still do a job for some people nonetheless. Perhaps the most interesting item piece for tier 9 players will be the availability of the Valhalla's Rise sword that can give you the Gait of Gunnr buff. It's the only way to get a Gait buff outside of the Beowulf class and can be a fun choice for trying some mega attack Titanguard builds or for Bahamuts to supercharge an attack based pet. The extra items from dungeon completion on top of the hefty amounts of orn and material gain available and of course any Baldr encounters makes Battlegrounds a really fun and rewarding themed dungeon for end-game players. Valley of the Gods Min tier: 10 Difficulty: Brutal Completion bonus: extra items, extra orns Base key cost: 20 Mob types: Arisen Unique mobs: - Max mobs per floor: 5 Good for: Godforging, rare mats from arisen monsters, 20 Gauntlet keys base cost, up to 20 Godforge chances per run, heaps of difficult scaled-up arisen mobs - this is certainly the Mt. Rushmore of the new themed dungeons. I love this place. This is the rarest and perhaps most valuable of the new themed dungeons to find. It is only accessible to tier 10+ characters and is undoubtedly the best place to try and Godforge your equipment, as Odie confirmed that Godforge chances are actually determined per kill. The Arisen Bosses themselves can now be berserk in these dungeons, and a zerk Arisen Mammon will look at you with almost half a million HP. A party of 4 is recommended not only to be able to run this place 4x times, but also to spread out the incoming damage where possible, Again this place is super fun to run with your kingdom mates or via Orna Legends discord, the hype of finding one after weekly rotations is like finding a new ornate weapon! The gauntlet key costs makes it an investment to run, especially with party cost scaling. However there is no doubt in my mind these costs are worth it and fair. We are talking about completing and min/maxing your endgame gear set - there should be an effort and cost involved. By the way if you're running low on keys don't forget you can run normal dungeons in a party, I recommend running some party boss dungeons, you'll soon find gauntlet keys leaking out of your arse. You can argue whether the arisen monsters in between Godforge floors are more difficult but in reality any berserks in here can hurt you. The Arisen Fallen Gods hit hard. Arisen Ronins can melt you. There's Lost Pharaohs and Carman's Gargoyles to petrify you. Arisen Finfolk and Hydras are here of course to freeze you and make you miserable. Crits from Arisen Great Gazers definitely still hurt. There's always something that can can immobilise or delete you. Party play definitely recommended and I think wee'll see plenty of people running Inquisitor or any new specs in a support role, being able to revive fallen party members or cleanse them is very useful. It's super disappointing dying in this dungeon and watching team-mates continue the run and try for more Godforge chances. Everything about running a Valley of the Gods is prestigious and feels awesome, like you've completed a real endgame piece of content. From finding a VotG in the first instance, to setting up and organising a party to run through, to the intense excitement and expectation after every Arisen Boss floor. I just love this place. One important thing to note in the video below; Baldr and Glatisant are no longer available to encounter in Valley of the Gods, they were made unique to Battlegrounds and Dragon Roost respectively. Now we have only the four Arisen Fallen Gods and Arisen Mammon. ConclusionThank you for reading! I hope this was an interesting and useful read/watch and gets you hyped for running these dungeons in parties or valiantly solo, perhaps in a drunken rage smashing out horde mode on a Friday night! I strongly recommend joining us in the Orna Legends Discord Server! We have self-assigned roles available so you can get involved with other people running these new themed dungeons that you'd also like to run. We've already had plenty of people organising pub dungeon runs during beta, and there's no doubt this will ramp up massively when 3.0 is live. Get involved! If you'd like to support my Orna content work and the Orna Legends ecosystem, you can now do so easily on Patreon! You can gain access to the Arisen Orna Legends discord section, where I and others share dungeon runs and you'll be first in line to join me in parties. Thank you again for reading - Shab.
