How to trade items in Aethric

The first thing you should know about trading in Hero of Aethric is that there is no direct trading with a particular player or auction house system that uses a base currency like gold or orns. i.e. you can't sit in Loton Grand Exchange offering a million orns for an Ornate Mimic King Head.

Trading unlocks at Tier 4, that is character lvl 75, and that gives you the ability to build a Trading Post in your Origin Town.
It costs 500k gold, 15 wood, 15 stone, 5 runestone
You can upgrade it with gold to increase the amount of trading slots.

"allows you to put up items for occasional trade" - basically there's an imaginery merchant trading caravan going around every player's origin town, picking up items from one player and dropping them off in place of another player's item...

How Trade Works
The way it works is you put an item in for trade, and then the game matches your item with another similar item randomly after a period of time, and you retrieve that item out the trading post.

Of course there are some rules as to what your item will be exchanged with:
  • Your items have to be lvl 1 first of all, so if you've got an item that's levelled up and you want to trade it you need to smelt it down in the blacksmith. For weapons, note that if you use a blackstone on a weapon you cannot smelt it back down (this is to prevent endless material gain from smelting and whetstoning) - shout out to MaesterTasl for pointing this one out to me.
  • Items must also be unlocked, you can unlock gear in your inventory. If you equip an item it automatically becomes locked.
  • Your item will be traded randomly for an item of the same tier, and of the same quality.
  • For example if i put in a tier 4 legendary bonecrusher from an Undead Golem, i would get back any legendary tier 4 item - it doesn't have to be a weapon or be the same class type.
In fact that's one good thing about trading is that if you find high quality gear that your class can't wear, chuck it in the trading post and hope that you get an item back that your class can actually use. For example if i'm playing tier 7 Majistrate class and i find an ornate Tiamat Staff, I would trade that in hopes of getting an Ornate Tiamat's Axe or Bow, or any other tier 7 ornate melee weapon.

I traded an Ornate Cursed Monster Tome and received an Ornate Heimdall's Shield - Note both items are Tier 8
My biggest gripe with trading at this early access phase of the game is the difficulty in finding the item you actually want to trade. There's currently no search or filter option but I'm sure Nothern Forge will add this in the future to simplify the process, as it's a common piece of feedback.

so does this mean if I'm hoping to get a "Head Piece XYZ", even though it's "random", it still requires another player to put up "Head Piece XYZ" in their caravan in order for me to have a random chance of getting it?

basically, if no one putting up "Head Piece XYZ", I will never receive it.

or does the game randomly drop in a random piece gear of same tier/quality for me, it has nothing to do with other players?
