How to get more Orns and Experience in Orna

17/10/2021

Orna players have always known that experience and orn gain items existed, and for some items the exact increase was known. An update in September 2021 brought with it two super important things that improves Orna players’ quality of life significantly in regards to orn/exp gain items.

  1. Exact numbers for orns/exp gain are now visible on the items in-game. This clears up any doubt as to what the gains each items actually gives us.
  2. Quality on items now affects orns increase, just as it affects experience gain. Until now, quality only affected experience gain and not orns. For example a Superior Dark Garb now gives more orns than a standard quality one, just like how experience gain works.

This second change has alleviated a certain amount of pain with the orn grind, especially around the mid-game where millions of orns are required for next tier classes but orn income from mob killing wasn’t on par. The majority of players were under-orned by each new tier jump. Thankfully this new change to orns affects a number of low-tier items as early as tier 3!

Orn & Experience Gain Basics
Each source of orn and experience gain is multiplied together, making your gains really ramp up to insane levels. That’s not only items that increases these gains but also consumable boosters like shrines, exp potions and lucky silver coins; the multiplying is super strong. You should definitely use the basic consumable boosters every time you play, they are common enough for pretty much every player as long as you’re doing a little bit of everything content-wise (dungeons, bosses, kingdom raids and you’re sorted).
It is also important to know exactly where these gains are actually applied, because not all content is affected. The list below should clear up where we can use these gains:
  • World - Yes
  • Dungeons (All) - Yes
  • Dungeon completion - No
  • PvP - No (Ring of Restraint works for some reason)
  • Raids - No
  • Quests - No (Ring of Restraint works for some reason)

So essentially for the majority of our mob and boss killing out in the world and in dungeons, these boosters all affect our orns and experience gain.
How Quality Affects Gains
Now we understand where we can utilise these orn & exp gains and that lots of different sources of gains are better for us as they multiply together, but by how much exactly? The consumable boosters are all already known quantities, so we’ll take a closer look at gear sources here.

Simple answer: Higher quality means more gains. Masterforged, Demonforged & Godforged are all qualities. Godforged is best for gains.
Details
In fact we should mention another two bonuses which are actually available in the same format: Gold and Luck. Gold gain works as you’d expect, increasing the gold drop from monsters (not kingdom gold though), and Luck is a stat that increases item drops, although it’s still a mystery in most cases whereas orns, experience and gold are all visible in the rewards screen and are known quantities.
We are going to utilise this fantastic table made by our good friend Rubenir. This allows us to figure out what the gains of a particular item will be, depending on its quality. Each item provides a base increase to either orns/experience/gold/luck or a mix of everything. The base value is always affected by the same amount even if it’s on a different item and if it’s increasing either orns or experience. So for example the Band of Gods has a base of 50% for all three of exp/orns/gold - meaning a quality version will affect each exp/orns/gold the same value.
Orna Gear Bonuses
Orna Gear Bonuses
Let’s learn how to read this table now, starting on the left with our item and the values next to it.
  1. Each item has a base value increasing orns/exp/gold/luck - find this value.
  2. We take that base value and move to the top right, the very top row, find the base value that matches.
  3. Now we go down this column and match to the desired quality, from broken all the way to godforged we can find the correct value. This is the final value of gains.
Example 1 - Ornate Deathbringer (lvl 10)
  1. Find the base value of the item, we see it’s +3% for both orns and exp.
  2. Now to the next section on the right, we find the Base Value of 3% is the third column from the left.
  3. We now go down the 3% column until we come to Ornate. The value here is +28.75%. This will apply to both orns and exp.
Example 1 - Ornate deathbringer (lvl 10) - Find the bonus orns value
Example 1 - Ornate deathbringer (lvl 10) - Find the bonus orns value
Example 2 - Broken Dark Garb (lvl 11 Masterforged)
  1. Base value is 5%
  2. Next section from top, 5% is 4th column from left.
  3. Broken quality gives -89.5% orns!!! Not what we want at all!!!
  4. What if we Masterforge it?... +36.5% !!! Much better!!! (Swashies everywhere rejoice)
Example 2 - Broken Dark Garb (lvl 11 Masterforged)
Example 2 - Broken Dark Garb (lvl 11 Masterforged)
Remember  this last example, from Masterforged onwards these item levels are also qualities, and affect our orns/exp gain positively.
Upgrade a standard quality Dark Garb for melee or a Dark Mage Robe if you’re magic, all the way to level 10 and then Masterforge it when you can. The materials are very common and it’ll be very cheap to upgrade. The orn gains will be a fantastic investment!

Multipliers
Let’s look at exactly how all these multipliers work together, i’ll try and keep it as simple as possible in terms of maths involved, hopefully you’ll get the idea!
The +% value is added to 1 for each item, then these are all multiplied (along with consumable boosters).

Scenario 1 - Tier 8 Mage
Legendary Black Witch’s Staff, lvl 10: +26% exp
Ornate Lost Helmet, lvl 6: +31.25% orns
Masterforged Dark Mage Robe, lvl 11: +36.5% orns
Ornate Great Monster Tome: +37.5% exp
Superior Cursed Monster Tome: +37.5% exp

Total orns boost from gear = 1.3125 x 1.365 = 1.792
Total exp boost from gear = 1.26 x 1.375 x 1.375 = 2.382

Now how about this player finds a shrine of wisdom and luck and then pops an exp potion and a lucky silver coin?
Orns gain = 1.792 x 2 x 2 = 7.168
Exp gain = 2.382 x 2 x 2 = 9.582

Look at those gains compared to if you weren’t wearing any boosting gear at all!
Can you work out what the maximum possible boosting multiplier is? Hidden Info might help...

Jewels of Growth
The experience gain of each adornment is added onto the final value of the gear piece. You’ll see in-game the value of each jewel if they are not standard quality, you can also work it out from the table using the base value of 1%. So for example if you place 5 Legendary Jewels of Growth into a Demonforged Black Witch’s Staff, what will be the final exp gain value?
Demonforged Black Witch’s Staff = +47%
Legendary JoG = +1.2%
5x Legendary JoG = 5 x 1.2 = 6 … (+6%)

Demonforged Black Witch’s Staff adorned with 5x Legendary Jewels of Growth = +53% Exp gain.
Conclusion
I hope this guide helps clarify exactly how and why you’ll want to be wearing orn and exp boosting gear in Orna! The grind is super real and if we can speed up our progress in any way it all helps add up, even with small gains. The max level of 250 is of course a huge effort but now in the end game we also have the massive orn sink of Ascension levels as well! Check out my guide to learn more about true end-game power and why you’ll want all the orn gear possible here!

Amazing guide! I'm wondering, how does this work with dual-wielding? E.g. if i were to use 2 x Legendary Deathbringers, at 23.6% exp and orn gain each, would it stack up to 47.2%?

It's 47.2% * 0.65 = 30.68%

But get an Ornate Darkest Garb :D

Does anyone know if having the duelist specialization, with its 'The Duelist' ability: 'You are very skilled without a shield. Deal extra damage while dual-wielding weapons.' also lowers the penalty of the wielded weapons to the exp/orns bonuses while dual-wielding?

Not sure if this has been changed, but I was under the impression that the specialization ability improves the dual-wielding multiplier by 0.10, from, is it 0.55 to 0.65 or from 0.65 to 0.75 and it would apply across all the stats the weapons have, not just atk/mag?
