105 Random Tips & Tricks for Orna

15/6/2021

I've finally got round to writing down a bunch of helpful tips that typically answer a lot of common questions about Orna. How many do you know?! Video at the bottom of the page if you'd prefer some in-game visuals for all these same tips also!

World

  • Long tap on mobs & bosses in the world to immediately enter battle.
  • Long tap the quick potions menu button at the bottom of the world UI to auto-heal
  • Tapping on the mini mob icons at the bottom of the world UI takes you immediately to that encounter (e.g. your kingdom gauntlet/war/raids or exploration and control).
  • Buying small HP/mana potions then quickly auto-healing is the best and most cost-effective way to return to full HP/mana. You can buy 1000 at a time in shops. (although you do regenerate 1% HP/mana per minute when your game is closed)
  • Always use a torch because its 60 minute buff allows you to see in the dark at night time, increases monster spawns and acts as a view distance multiplier. Buy them in shops for pennies!
  • View distance boosts stack together multiplicatively (for the most part). One of my favourite utilisations early game is to use 2 Lantern accessories (buy in shops or mimic drops), then dual wield weapons that give view distance - Draconian Sceptre from the Draconian Lord boss for mages, or Firepike from Pyre NPC quests for melee - in my world gear loadout in order to scout and to access dungeons from further afield, then ensure I'm using my good gear in my gauntlet loadout.
  • Always use boosters when farming. Lucky Coin, Lucky Silver Coin doubles your gold/orns income from killing anything in the world and in dungeons. You'll never run out of these. Exp potions are commonly dropped from low tier kingdom raids as well or worst case bought for 500 orns from Runeshop.
  • Exploration monsters and bosses yield double rewards compared to in the world.
  • Monster remains can be bought from shops on rare occasions, allowing you to spawn a random boss at your feet.
  • Use map filters to show/hide stuff on the map as required, saves you accidentally using a shrine you were saving up!
  • Killing a boss out in the world can have 2 outcomes: 1) there's an 80% chance the same boss will respawn in same spot after 3 hours or 2) a new boss will spawn randomly nearby instead
  • You can view and fight bosses up to 1 tier higher than you out in the world (well at least until tier 8 - tier 9 players cannot see tier 10 world bosses).
  • If playing with friends you can all kill the same world boss or mob as long as everyone enters the fight before someone kills it.
  • You do not receive any rewards on world bosses/mobs you've damaged incrementally unless you deal a killing blow yourself.
  • Greyed out items in shops and similarly spells in Arcanists are tier-locked. Level up to purchase.
  • There exists a Day-Night cycle in Orna. Night time is from 8pm - 6 am local time. Some mobs are day or night time spawning only!
  • Weather in Orna works in a 23 hour cycle per each individual area. It does not reflect the actual weather at your current location in real life. Weather lasts for 1 hour and each area will see 1 hour of each weather type per day).
  • There are 3 weather types in Orna being Rain, Snow and Sun/Moon (Day/Night). Each weather type has specific rare mobs that can only spawn during that weather period of 1 hour (Yeti coat anyone?). Any world mob/boss fights during weather can also mean you and/or your enemy stat the battle with relevant status effect (sun - burning, snow - frozen, rain - drenched, moon - asleep) this effect can be countered by wearing status immunity gear.
  • Biome specific mobs and bosses also exist in Orna, these biomes being Land, Water, Wood, Dungeon.
  • All mobs/bosses except weather specific mobs can appear in dungeons.
  • The Orna overworld map is augmented using Open Street Map - biomes in the game are depicted from there.
  • Playing and opening up the game on a regular basis increases item spawns on the ground. Common theory is at least being offline for 10 - 15 mins to reopen. Good to save shrines for a solid grinding session.
  • Walking around locally and an increased player activity in general, can and will cause new buildings to spawn naturally in the world. Pray for that dungeon spawn! I believe different players/characters and also slightly different routes taken can expedite these spawns. Also bear in mind this will probably not work in already congested areas.
  • Story and NPC quests that require item hand-ins need your items to be both unlocked and be standard normal quality.
  • After finding fishing lines from shops, drops from mimics or as a quest reward you can now start fishing. You'll need to be directly beside a place with dark blue looking water with waves on the map or you can also fish from a consumable fountain (this will be consumed). Decor fountains/wells do not work for fishing.
  • Higher tier fishing lines reduces the waiting time between bites.
  • Using a split screen feature on your mobile device makes fishing easier by reducing the spawning area of the ripples you need to tap.
  • Allowing too many fish to get away will cause your line to break.
  • You can start up the fishing screen at a certain location, then put your mobile on hold, to resume fishing again after moving location. Maybe useful if you live in a colder/wetter climate.
  • Fishing can get you some decent things:
1) Fish, used at the Herbalist for brewing potions or to enter fishing contests
2) Water biome mobs/bosses (e.g. Lizzar Lord for story quest)
3) Random items that can genuinely be awesome sometimes (I once found an Ornate Arisen Monster Tome from fishing, but I was already max level)
4) Fisher sprite!
  • World mobs/bosses with a yellow exclamation mark (!) above them are part of a kill quest available for you to complete (Story, Daily, NPC, Inn, Kingdom, Town Hall).
  • NPCs with a yellow question mark (?) should have new quests available for you to accept.
  • Each NPC has an individual mini quest line for you to complete, available once you reach their relevant tier.
  • Once you complete their quest line, NPCs can offer you regular random quests to complete.
  • Buildings with a yellow exclamation mark (!) have restocked naturally (Shops, Bestiaries, Inns for new quests)
  • You can determine if a building is player-made if its name shows (…'s) to indicate possession.
  • The wee arrow always visible on your world map points North. That's all it shows. You can double tap your screen to reset the view to have North showing upwards.
  • The tier rating of monster kill quests is the same tier as that monster. That should give you an idea of what dungeon tier to select if you're using dungeons to find the mob.
  • How do you move in Orna? Well it's a GPS game so you have to move about in real life. Walk, cycle catch a ride. Not mandatory to play the game but has advantages if you can move regularly.
  • Boosters and the like do not affect raid rewards in any way. (exp potions, lucky silver coins etc)

Buildings

  • You can now zoom in and out, tilt and rotate the map when placing or moving buildings for more exact construction.
  • "One building per Area" buildings such as Refineries and Jewellers can still be moved into your Origin Town - you just have to build it in different areas and move it close to your current location. You may need to "walk" these buildings back depending how many you want and from how far away you're building them.
  • Shops and Bestiaries restock each time you level them up, so check them after each upgrade.
  • In shops the first couple of restock prices are always cheap before they start ramping up.
  • Buy low tier cheap items in Shops to dismantle them in bulk for useful materials (wood, iron, hide etc)
  • Always buy elemental stone mats, there's 4 NPC quests that require 50 of each at tier 4.
  • Buy all mats you see anyway, for upgrading items and quest hand-ins.
  • Check your shops for Monster Remains, Dowsing Rods, Arena Tokens and Affinity Candles; you can never have too many of these!
  • If you're moving Origin Town you can take some if not all of your buildings with you; Anything built from within your original Origin Town build menu will come with you, regardless of where they are placed physically. When you reassign new Origin Town area your buildings will magically appear in a random pile at you new place, ready for you to sort out.

In-Battle

  • Disabling animations from the options menu will speed up your fights, eventually saving you huge amounts of time. Some skills take way too long to animate. I wish there was an option for faster animations!
  • Dexterity and Mystic Feather miss rates:
- In battle your dexterity stat is compared vs your enemy's dexterity and the max dodge chance from a difference in player dexterity is 40%
- The max dodge chance as a result of mystic feather is 70%
- They do not stack with one another, rather the game will take whichever one is greater at the time of an attack and miss chance rolled from that.
  • Use Omnistrike 1 skill to lower enemy stats whilst saving skill slots. Works great for Raids. Don't discount your pet damage as well, I like to get all for stat downs (Def↓, Res↓, Att↓, Mag↓)
  • Multiple effect-causing adornments stack together e.g. 5 Assassin's Jewels increases the total proc chance of decreasing your enemy's temp defense. Same idea for Arcana jewels, Mammon Teardrops etc.
  • Charge-up skills can actually go beyond the shown 100% buff cap charge on your character menu, by buffing your relevant offensive stat in battle (Att/Mag). Sorrow/Summon Dead for Magic, Dragon's Vengeance for Attack. E.g. in Arena sometimes you'll get hit for punitive damage (meaning they haven't actively charged this skills in last 48 hours) and sometimes you'll get blown apart!
  • Status effects on you caused by your pet cannot immunised against (Crimson Gazer)
  • +Crit Chance from gear and battle buffs now affect all skills that can crit (most strike attack and fey magic spells). Skills that have specific crit rates in their description cannot have their crit chance changed (Guts, Lunge).
  • The following status effects will cause a 100% guaranteed hit rate even if blinded: Asleep, Stunned, Frozen Petrified. (Remember this also works against you equally)
  • Raid bosses get stronger the more damage you dish out in that run. That's why you'll see your damage numbers slowly dwindling each turn and the boss damage ramping up. World Raid Boss stats increase at a faster rate than Kingdom Raids.
  • Skill elements override your weapon element. You can still proc the elemental status effect from your element though.

Dungeons

  • Different dungeons out in the world as well as your menu gauntlet all have their own individual cooldowns. You can access these from lvl 50.
  • You can exit and re-enter dungeons freely, allowing you to change gear/skills/classes/pets etc. just don't forget about the cooldown.
  • Monsters in dungeons yield 50% rewards compared to out in the world (exp, gold, orns)
  • Bosses in dungeons yield 25% rewards compared to in the world (same as monster remains actually)
  • Completing dungeons successfully nets you bonus orns, materials, completed quest items and random items (available in higher qualities).
  • Hard mode dungeons doubles the reward yield from kills inside (monster rewards up to 100%, boss rewards up to 50% of world), gives you more materials and orns as well as making any item drop in the completion screen be at least superior quality (end of dungeon rewards).
  • You can change the tier of dungeons using the dropdown. Ideal if you're struggling to complete dungeons at your current tier (always best to try and complete dungeons for extra rewards) or for hunting down a specific mob.

Class Building

  • Plenty of early to mid-game bosses and hard mobs can actually be slept, this is commonly the best way to take down powerful enemies and can get you big gear upgrades; buy the tier 2 Rogue class to unlock Sleep Dart skill if you haven't already.
  • Skills that you learn from unlocking classes or buying from Arcanists can be used by any class you choose to play. However, skills learnt from Specialisations are tied to that Spec only - if you change Spec you will also lose access to its specific skills.
  • Whilst levelling around tiers 3-5, buy all the tier 1 and tier 2 classes except Knight; this will allow you to learn a bunch of skills and work towards completing The Student IV / V and Polymath II Achievements (buying random skills from Arcanists also helps of course). This will net you a positive boost in orns for working to unlock your desired tier 3 - 4 - 5 class.
  • Your first specialisation choice per character is free, so I recommend waiting until tier 5 (level 10) and choosing a more powerful tier 5 spec, saving yourself a sweet 25k orns.
  • Killing "Fallen" mobs is a good way to accumulate arena tokens early on. These mobs also drop the best starting weapons for each class type.
  • You don't need a main hand Bow weapon to use off-hand Arrows.
  • Gold is plentiful in early to mid-game but believe it or not in late game becomes a valuable resource. Ascending and reclaiming adornments can get super expensive. A good way to easily increase your gold income is by turning off auto-dismantle option for Standard quality gear. Standard quality items actually stack together tidily in your inventory, making it easy to junk and sell large quantities of items with a couple of taps.

Gear

  • A higher tier boss weapon will often be better than your current one even without quality, use whetstones on it.
  • Boss gear gets improved scaling when levelling the item up in blacksmith (meaning for example if you have a boss weapon and a normal mob weapon with the same attack stat at lvl 1, the boss weapon will have increased attack per upgrade level)
  • You can reclaim Adornments by smelting the item in a Blacksmith. This will cost you gold or you can remove the adornment for free (you lose the adornment).
  • All items in the game receive their maximum amount of adornment slots when Masterforged, regardless of their initial quality (Broken and Ornate item will have same adornment slots at MF) (Except Balor Crown when this occurs at Demonforged). Godforging an item will then also add an additional adornment slot.
  • Always use whetstone and fine whetstone to immediately upgrade your new weapon to lvl 3, it's a great power boost until you level it up further in the Blacksmith
  • Dual wielding weapons causes each of their stats to be lowered to 65% of initial power. Dual wielding 2 weapons of similar power can often yield greater offensive stats than a dedicated off-hand.
  • Equipping an item automatically locks it. Unlock items you don't want to keep to dismantle or sell.

Kingdom

  • Always tag all available kingdom raids (do at least > 1 point of damage) to get in the loot drop pool. Higher tier raid gear will not drop but you can regularly receive goodies like gauntlet keys. Use a high penetrating skill like Double Edge for attack builds or the lvl 50 Archmage elemental spells (Meteor, Blizzard, Storm, Quake).
  • Kingdom Quests can actually refresh after a few days of nobody starting them. If there's a painful quest just abandon it and hope for an easier one to pop up.
  • Kingdom Quests tiers are matched relevant to the tiers of everyone in your Kingdom Roster.
  • Kingdom Gauntlet fights can be shuffled once per 20 minutes but not if that fight has been started. If you've got a berserk waiting to own you call for a shuffle.
  • Kingdom Gauntlets can be started at a maximum rate of 1 per hour, and the rewards increase with more players in your roster and with higher level of players.
  • Kingdom Officials can raise/lower raid damage limits, which limits the percentage of total HP you can damage the raid boss per run. That's why all of a sudden you'll hit zeroes and get one shot next turn.
  • Basic Kingdom mechanics are members kill stuff to gain small amounts of Kingdom gold which builds up over time. Kingdom gold is used to start Kingdom Gauntlets and Kingdom Wars - both of which yield Kingdom Orns when successful. Kingdom Orns are used to start Kingdom raids - that's what we all want to loot!
  • In the Kingdom War menu tap on "Defense" to check if your opponent managed to kill you.

General

  • Keep an eye out for lucrative daily quests and multiple quests asking you to complete the same task. This is a great way to earn tens of thousands of orns. Examples:
 - Ancient Mimic ~ 20k orns
 - Multiple gauntlet completion quests
 - Multiple arena kill quests
  • Sprite Packs - You can purchase alternative class sprite packs for your character in the runeshop after unlocking that class, as well as monthly event sprite packs.
  • You can use any purchased sprite pack on any class - it's a fantastic way to support the game!
  • Free Sprite Packs - There are actually a few alternate sprite packs you can find in the game for FREE with just a little hard work:
 1) Fisher (from fishing)
 2) Mayor and 3) Villager (after reaching 100% morale in your Town Hall)
 4) Spec sprite change (costs orns - e.g. you want Merchant sprite but you actually play Berserker, spec swap to Merchant (25k orns) and change your sprite in Appearance to the Merchant sprite. Switch back to Berserker spec (25k orns) and you'll keep the Merchant sprite!
  • Use the Hidden.Info spreadsheet available from Orna.Guide for tonnes of detail into game mechanics https://orna.guide/gameplay?show=17
  • Use Orna.Guide as the best resource Orna game database https://orna.guide/
  • Using Emulators such as Bluestacks to play Orna is actually against ToS and you will eventually get banned. You can however use screen mirroring like Chromecast or scrcpy.
  • As long as you have a Keep with enough storage space, any new pets you buy will send your currently equipped pet safely back to Keep storage.
  • You can rename your currently equipped pet at a Bestiary
  • Different sources of boosters stack together multiplicatively (Exp, orns, consumable boosters etc)
  • Choosing a faction at lvl 10 doesn't really change your game too significantly, I'd say either go with the faction description that resonates the most with you or remember that if you want to play with friends in the same kingdom you have to be in the same faction.
  • You can change faction in the Runeshop for about $1 quid.
  • Levelling up in Orna is an absolute grind. Switching your priority from world farming/dungeons/boss dungeons/raids/pvp etc is a great way to mix it up and avoid burnout. Take a break if you need to - the grind is real.
  • Finding Stone early for your first few buildings can be challenging. Keep your eye out in the world because you can find stone on the ground as well as buy directly from shops. It's a common daily login reward and there's a couple of tier 3 mobs that drop it (Golem, Ogre).
  • Nothing will happen to your character if you die, it's not in hardcore mode.
  • Gauntlet keys can be found mainly from killing bosses. Not all bosses drop keys but a good amount do, starting from tier 3.
  • The regional leader board and regional chat are sections of the world map split up by 10° x 10° regions.
  • If you want to increase your rank and climb the leader boards the most efficient way to do so is complete boss dungeons and quests.

I have a level 10 town hall with 100 morale, yet I have not received any sprites (at all to be honest). Your list here says the villager sprite is at 100 morale?

it's a random gift your villagers give you, not an automatic reward

You need a Citadel built to receive rewards from your villagers
